Citymapper App

Background

The Citymapper app is a handy app that can help the user get pretty much anywhere. Whether you are walking or taking the bus, this powerful app is a great tool to navigate throughout major cities and public transportation. This app works as a GPS and as a public transportation schedule and gives estimates and suggestions of bus, train, Uber, Lyft and even city bikes cost. If traveling, this fantastic app is a nice addition to plan any trip.

Empathize

Understanding the user is one of the most important roles in the process. The average traveler had the repeated problem. The age-old issue of finding and dealing with fickle ticketing machines or even carrying around printed tickets and transportation cards. Finally, things like pricing or purchasing the correct ticket can become a real pain when you are abroad. This can be a problem as many users are often in a rush and need quick one stop solutions.

Define

The main pain point is that it does not allow the user to purchase the ticket directly in the app. The app plans the trip and cost details but unable to provide information on the ticket to purchase and where to buy the ticket. While interviewing, many users had an issue navigating between different platforms and apps to purchase their ticket.

Ideate

To solve the fundamental problem, being able to purchase the ticket directly from the Citymapper app is the viable solution. I can do this in multiple way, but I would like to focus on adding a wallet feature where you can purchase and store multiple passes. This will allow users to purchase and organize them directly from the app without having to access each individual website or app.

Prototype

Learned

Through this project, I have learned to develop the user’s problem through interviews and find a theme. This allowed me to find similarities of a common problem that helped me recognize an aspect that could benefit the Citymapper’s app.
